Punjab Cultural Centre
( Part 1 )
Here’s the Sangeet event from the Punjab Cultural Centre for Lucky and Sunny’s wedding. The Engagement Party/Shagun and Maiyan all took place at their homes. Sometimes Indian weddings are so big and long that they require two blog posts so here is the part one!
With a growing Indian community in Winnipeg there are just some places that our events have grown too big for. Since the development of the Punjab Culture Centre most of the pre wedding events we’ve done the past few years have taken place here. This venue has a large space and good food for pre wedding events and sometimes wedding receptions.
Since Lucky had a huge amount of guests from his side of the wedding he had his Sangeet at this venue. Sunny had her’s convienently in the party tent at her home.
Here’s more info on the types of Sikh pre wedding events
The engagement party was the first official event and it was sweet little ceremony. Both sides of the family met outside the tent at Sunny’s place and they exchanged rings and gifts inside there after. The party to follow was insane with people being tossed up on shoulders all night long. I ended up leaving at ten o’clock and the party was still going strong. That was party number one and we still had three more nights to go.
The second event was the Sangeet and I ended up at the Punjab Cultural Centre. My trusty second photographer went to Sunny’s location at the tent.
As soon as all the guests got their food and had some bites the ladies gathered with two mics and began singing together. The songs are folk songs which bring joy and happiness to the wedding and bonds the families closer together.

Soon after the singing we had some performances by Lucky’s family members and friends. Lucky even joined in at the end with his dad who ended up calling everyone onto the dance floor. This began the Jaggo and more partying with another night to remember
Day three was the Maiya where Lucky and Sunny both got beautified with the cleansing rituals a day before the wedding. This is where family and friends rub a turmeric paste on their skins. It was the final night before the wedding where we had to wake up super early for the wedding. I showed up at 7am at Sunny’s home where she was fully ready. Sunny began her hair and make up I think at 4am.
Hope you enjoyed part one. Part 2 of this wedding is here
