Wedding Locations
I've created a great list of wedding venues here in Winnipeg and wedding locations in other parts of the world. This list is also limited to the places we've photographed in but there are many. Every venue has it's own unique charm and finding the perfect one for you will take some time and research.
Book early
Booking your wedding venues is the number one priority once you have your wedding date. This is because wedding venues do get booked at least 12-24 months in advance just like wedding photographers.
Research
Also choosing the right wedding venues will depend on how big your guest list is, the weather, location, and many other things. Therefore do your due diligence and research them thoroughly so you end up with the best fit for you.

Guest Count and Budget
Finding the right wedding venue will depend on a few things and need to be determined before you look. The first thing I would want to know is, how many guests are coming. The second thing would be my wedding budget and what I can afford in Winnipeg.
A lot of wedding venues don't allow outside catering or alcohol, so that has to be taken into consideration. According to my wedding survey, most reception venues range from $6000-$30,000, with, and without catering.
Vibe/Style
I'd also want to have a place that fits the vibe I'm going for and theme. For instance some venues scream laid back, country/farmhouse, and others can be more classical and prestigious. Picking the right one will have to fit your personalities as well.
Furthermore, if nothing fits your bill, you can always get creative and find a uniquely private location. A location for your ceremony or reception that maybe others haven't thought of. For instance, a cozy backyard wedding at your friend's house in the country can always be an option. And likewise, your favorite restaurant for an intimate reception is common as well. This will depend on how large your wedding is of course.
Destination wedding venues
For destination weddings, I've photographed at resorts and you're usually stuck with what they have to offer. But by doing a little research you can find some very cool wedding venues. For instance, old churches or ruins that date back maybe a thousand years.
With that said, there are many beautiful resorts that look absolutely amazing and throw awesome weddings.
Here's a great list I found of the 50 best destination wedding locations by the Knot for some ideas.

Places to get married
Finding a nice waterfall as a backdrop or a canyon can be possible. However, you should always seek the advice of a wedding planner in the country and area to make sure you get the right permits and permissions. Otherwise, you could be looking at some hefty penalties and fines. Breaking laws in other countries can also mean jail time so please make sure you seek professional advice.
